Peonies Blooming on the Farm Today

Our peony farm and iris gardens are open for bloom season! The recent warm weather is helping open more of the early bloomers.

Bouquet Perfect, Carnation Bouquet, Hillary, Honor, Illini Warrior, Joker, Lois’ Choice,  Morning Lilac, May Lilac, Peachy Rose, Rosea Plena, Rubra Plena, Serenade, Silver Dawn Mix, Sugar ‘n Spice are blooming alongside the very early bloomers that have opened over the past couple of weeks. The big reds, Red Charm and Henry Bockstoce are trying to open – we’ll see how long it takes them.

We had two days of warm weather (it’ll be perfectly cooler today) and we could literally watch some buds open, like our potted tree peonies. In the morning there was no sign of color on the Vesuvian buds; by mid-day I could see a sliver of red, followed by an afternoon showing of the first petal.  We are seeing some nice color in the peony field this first week of bloom season.

The infamous wisteria is blooming wildly and iris and tree peonies are popping open in the gardens.

Come on out and take a look. Peach Rose and Vesuvian tree peony photos.
