Peony News

The last day of our open farm this season is today. I always want the season to go on and on; but, the petals are falling and barely a side-bud remains to open.  While there is still a bit of raggedy bloom in the fields to spy a flower form or color, our display tables are filled with nice blossoms for a good look at perhaps 80 varieties.

We still have a selection of potted peonies and you can also order bare root for fall planting at the farm or online.

As we wind down another bloom season, I reflect on the wonderful help we enjoyed this spring. Friends and family pitched in to mow, weed, sell flowers and plants; and, do whatever needed to be done as my husband recovered from shoulder surgery. We are grateful. Bless you all.

Peony Farm Open Dates and Hours

We've extended our open dates for visiting the farm - now open through June 17, 2017: daily - 10 am - 6 pm.

The late peonies are still blooming, although the earlier heat and recent rain has moved them along. You can check out the growth habitat of the plants and see many colors and flower styles. We have many early, mid-season and late varieties on display in our flower tents, so you can browse the variations in peonies to compare your favorites.

peonies on display at Brooks Gardens

It's been another whirlwind peony season at Brooks Gardens - slow to bloom this season, then really warm, with a lot of bloom bursting the last week of May.

Potted Peonies on Sale

Potted peonies are discounted 20% now through June 17th. We will continue to accept online orders throughout the summer and fall for bare root peonies; they are shipped in the fall for planting then. You may also order roots here at the farm.

Thank you  for visiting this season; we appreciate meeting so many of you and are just as thrilled as you are when you spot the flower that touches your heart and soul. Yesterday, Madeline cried when she saw the peonies. I overheard her say that her daughter brought her out for her birthday; that she couldn't believe she was actually here. She was a great-great grandma and this was her first visit to a peony farm.

I think she may have been the happiest peony lover I have ever met; and, that was before I slipped out to the field and cut her some fresh peonies. When I gifted her the 'birthday bouquet', she smiled, cried and then kissed me on the cheek. Made me smile all day.

Here come the peonies! Looking at the peony fields with all the budded stems, it is hard to believe that over 60 varieties are already blooming. There will be many varieties popping open this week and the following weeks – sun is on the horizon!

Brooks Gardens Peony & Iris Bloom Status

There is a four week swing in bloom time from 2016 to this year. Last year we had the earliest peony bloom season on record, peaking May 5th.  This year we were cooler and the bloom is about a week later than normal. We expect peak bloom in late May, which is more usual than the past two years. With lots of sun and warmth about to arrive in western Oregon in the next week, there will be different peony varieties opening daily for the next few weeks. Our historic iris garden has come alive with flowers and the sweet scent will greet you as you wander the pathways.

Our Secluded Peony Farm

We were blessed to have cut peonies for Mother’s Day weekend and puzzled when one of our Facebook followers said she stopped by and there were no bouquets. Turns out several folks went to a neighboring peony garden and thought they were here. As Brooks, OR is the peony & iris capital of Oregon, I remind folks that we are the ‘hidden’ peony farm, tucked out of sight from the highway. Driving here is a short adventure, and while we are only ½ mile down Topaz Street, the seclusion fills visitors with delight upon arrival. Follow the purple signs in the area. Those Itoh Peonies are In Their Glory

Many of the Itoh intersectional peonies are blooming this week, including Berry Garcia, Border Charm, Callie’s Memory, Canary Brilliants, Chief Black Hawk, Cora Louise, Hillary, Julia Rose, Lemon Dream, Luxuriant, Magical Mystery Tour, Old Rose Dandy and Sequestered Sunshine (fitting name for Oregon gardens). These peonies (a bush peony with a tree peony parent) come in amazing colors ranging from stark white, dark red, bright yellow and blends of orange, pink, cream and reds.

Herbaceous Peonies

The mid-season herbaceous varieties are now joining the peony festival of blossoms including many of the early corals, reds and yellows. Lemon Chiffon is in all it's glory!

Rain or shine we're here with Mothers Day peony bouquets. Waking up to a morning drizzle is refreshing today - after the heat of yesterday.

Thank you to all the wonderful visitors we are meeting this season. We appreciate seeing many of you returning with friends to show them our secluded iris gardens and peony farm. While we are just a half mile off the highway, first time visitors are amazed at the winding pathways, large conifers, tree peonies and over 1,000 bearded iris varieties they find in our nearly 3 acre iris gardens. The iris are in peak bloom this week and their sweet fragrance is wafting through the gardens and beyond.

You can walk from the iris gardens directly into the peony fields where over 100 varieties of peonies are in full bloom. You can see the differing colors and styles of peonies and compare fragrances - enjoy your very own little peony festival! The later peony varieties will be opening over the coming days/weeks. They are blooming early this season.

Mother’s Day weekend on our farm could not be more spectacular with bloom this year. Both the peony fields and the historic bearded iris gardens are brimming with flowers this week.  As soon as we cut and bundle a few hundred peony blossoms for bouquets, it's out to the field for another wheelbarrow load to fill our fresh cut flower tent.

Annie, Sam, Rita, Joe, Carmen and other family members and friends are pitching in with extra pizzazz this season. The peonies are coming on strong and we are blessed with great family and friends. Seeing our smiling visitors lifts our spirits and energizes us. It’s wonderful to see so many returning customers and new visitors each day. We never tire of hearing your wonderful comments on our ‘Amazing’ gardens or your thrill at discovering a new peony.

Stop by and feed your soul with the beauty of the flowers.
